Sunday Services

Every Sunday parents bring young children to church.

At Holy Trinity this takes place at the back of the church. After their activities the children come to the front of church to show us their work. They then sit with their parents for the second half of the service and go to the altar with them for a blessing.

Parents can worship in peace; children can learn about God and they can share in the last part of the service. Older children are encouraged to join the choir if they enjoy singing or to consider communion before confirmation.

Godly Play

This takes place every second Sunday (also the fifth if there is one) and takes place at 9.30am at Holy Trinity.

Little Fishes Toddler Group

Little Fishes is a group for children from birth upwards who meet on Wednesdays in Holy Trinity hall 9.30-11.30am. Our youngest members are a matter of weeks old, and they can continue right up till when they go to school.

For the first hour, we have many toys from play gyms and baby toys for the babies, through to toys for the older children including small world toys, puzzles, bricks, a role play kitchen, car and farm mats, a dolls house, dressing up and much, much more! We always have a colouring table and a simple ‘craft table’ for the children to make something to take home usually based on a theme such as a story or current event (eg Easter, Mothering Sunday, Father’s day or the Olympics ) – sometimes these crafts work as a project over several weeks, for example our Christmas tree decorations but most of the time get completed in one session.

We’re a friendly team of volunteers, and will welcome you whether the children are having a high spirited day, whether it’s a day when you’re exhausted because you’ve been up with them all night or on those days when you just need some ‘adult conversation’. A friendly face, a cup of tea, and someone else to hold the baby, can do wonders! The children also develop great social skills whilst playing and learning together.

We have fruit snack at tables at 10.45am and then the children have the chance to have a more active period whilst they explore the pop up tents, ride-ons, pushchairs, trolleys and trying to balance on our animal stilts. After burning off some energy, we finish the morning with a short, circle time with plenty of singing based around our theme or event, celebrate Birthdays and there is usually the chance to join in on the piano too.

We officially start at 9.30am but generally people come along ‘as and when’ they are ready and leave when they or the children decide! There is a donation on the door of £1.50 per family to help fund craft resources, general wear and tear and replacement of toys, food and drinks.

We are closed between Christmas and New Year but meet on all the other Wednesdays so we are open for 50-51 weeks a year! During school Half Term holidays, we combine with our Messy Church to become Little Fishes Go BIG which has similar crafts, play opportunities and singing but also includes a snack box lunch for all to enjoy and of course older children are welcome too. Please see the information on ‘Messy Church’ for more information. During other school holiday times, we welcome older siblings to join us too and ensure we have activities more suitable for them to keep them occupied!

So come along and meet us! We are also on Facebook and share the Messy Church page so look out for our other Messy Church and children’s events here too!

Messy Church

We hold 6 Messy Church sessions a year on Thursdays 4-6pm (see flyers or our Facebook page for exact dates). At Messy Church, children are encouraged to have some messy fun whilst learning about a carefully selected theme usually based on either a bible story or a current event in the calendar. The session costs £1 per person (including carers) and is payable on the door when you arrive.

We have lots of crafts for ages up to about 9 years although older children are still welcome to join us and extend activities further or help the younger children. There are still lots of play opportunities for all and there is always a chance to contribute to a BIG ART which then remains in the church for the congregation to see next time they are in church and they sometimes also get the opportunity to add to it themselves too. Each family has a bag to fill up with all their crafty projects to take home and enjoy!

At 5pm we go into the church whilst the hall is made ready for dinner. We sing some songs and reflect about the fun we have had and what we have learnt about our theme and think about whether we can do anything differently when we go home. Quite often there is an activity to take part in to keep the children engaged, such as a treasure hunt, a presentation, a role play, dressing up or an interactive activity.

We then all go back to the hall to share a cooked meal together. A time when we can chat about what we have been doing and satisfy those rumbling tums before heading home taking their bag of crafts to enjoy and remember our session.

You can find us on Facebook for both Little Fishes go BIG and Messy Church for all the dates and upcoming events. We work a pre-booking system which we open 2 weeks before our events and you can either book in on Facebook by commenting on posts and sending us messages or by filling in forms at Little Fishes Baby and Toddler group. It always helps us to know how many people we are expecting so we can cater for everyone accordingly and ensure we have enough craft resources for every child however you are still welcome to just come on the day if you have not pre-booked.

Little Fishes go BIG

During school half term holidays Messy Church combines with our Baby and Toddler group ‘Little Fishes’ at a slightly later time of 10.30am-12.30pm to make a session called Little Fishes go BIG. Children have some messy fun whilst learning about a carefully selected theme usually based on either a bible story or a current event in the calendar. The session costs the same as our regular Little Fishes baby and toddler group so is £1.50 per family and is payable on the door when you arrive.

We have lots of crafts for ages up to about 9 years although older children are still welcome to join us and extend activities further. There are still lots of play opportunities for all and there is always a chance to contribute to a BIG ART which then remains in the church for the congregation to see next time they are in church and they sometimes also get the opportunity to add to it themselves too. At 11.30am we go into the church whilst the hall is made ready for lunch. We then all go back to the hall to share lunch together. This includes a snack box style lunch for all to enjoy (carers and helpers too) as everyone has rumbling tums after their busy morning!

Due to popularity of the Little Fishes Go BIG at half terms we do advise pre-booking as we do have number restrictions for health and safety reasons.
